Early in his career, Mickey Spillane lived nearby and based the character of Mike Hammer on a combination of Carroll John Daly's detective character Race Williams, and an ex-Marine and Newburgh, New York police officer Jack Stang.
While Hudson, N.Y., the town that filled in for "Melton" in Odds Against Tomorrow (1959) has gentrified Newburg which hasn't and gotten run down even more, could easily be a second "Melton" in a remake, hell, it's even still got a tank farm along the Hudson River.
