I'm the best cocksucker in town! |
Senator Tobey: "But why would Joe Epstein give you all that money, Miss Hill?"
Virginia Hill: "You really want to know?"
Senator Tobey: "Yes, I really want to know."
Virginia Hill: "Then I’ll tell you why. Because I’m the best cocksucker in town!"
Senator Kefauver: "Order! I demand order!"
--Excerpt from Virginia Hill’s testimony in front of
the Senate Special Committee to Investigate
Organized Crime in Interstate Gambling
Virginia Hill was born in Bessemer, Alabama on August 26, 1917, the seventh of ten children born to W.M. "Mack" Hill, a drunken marble carver and mule salesmen, and his wife Margaret, who operated a boardinghouse. At the age of eleven Virginia rarely says no to any boy who asks for sex. In 1931-2 she allegedly marries a George Rogers/Brown/Randell at the age of 14 or 15, but no legal record of the union was ever be found.

At the age of 17 in August of 1933 she moves with Randell from Marietta, Georgia, to Chicago, Illinois, allegedly to get work at the Century Of Progress Exhibition. She works a variety of menial jobs but ends up making more money as a hooker trolling the exhibition tourists and as a common streetwalker. Going prices in 1933 were two dollars for a fifteen minute screw and a dollar more for blowjobs.

She was good enough at it, that she gets quite a reputation and she starts working as a call girl/prostitute at Nicholas Deani Circella, aka Nick Circella, aka Nick Dean's The Colony Club at 744 North Rush Street.

Virginia gets very chummy with Joey Epstein, and brothers Charlie and Joe Fischetti who where in charge of the mob's prostitution rackets. The Fischetti's offer her the job as madam for a string of ringer houses. Virginia turns them down going to work for Epstein instead.

Epstein liked to use classy looking women that could fly under the radar, and not attract attention. Getting Virginia made over and buying her an expensive wardrobe she handles Epstein's money laundering transactions with one of the mobs major front men, an Indianapolis trucking tycoon named Riddle. This Riddle apparently gets serviced by Virginia who in grateful appreciation of her talents showers her with gifts.
Virginia continues to be a courier for Epstein, collecting mob cash from various cities, then betting the money at various racetracks on horses in races where the fix was in. The now "clean" money she took back to Chicago.

Joe Adonis |
During these travels across the country Virginia "puts out" for various mob bosses, among them Moe Dalitz, the boss of Detroit, and Joe Adonis of New York. Back in Chicago boss Tony Accardo is boning her. She becomes the mob whore. At a Chicago mob Christmas party thrown by Charlie Fischetti and his wife in December 1936, Virginia performs a Merry Christmas fellatio to every gang leader at the club.

The Chicago mob uses Virginia as a spy on the other outfits around the country and eventually order her back to New York where she is to cuddle back up with Joe Adonis. Adonis was a trigger man and later head of Murder, Incorporated. Though Joe is married Virginia soon become Joe's "goumare," his mistress, she was like his second wife. Virginia became Joe's regular piece on the side, who received regular sperm donations from Joe in exchange for "gifts."
|
Joe Adonis |
Virginia had a couple of rackets going herself. She passes herself off as a Southern Belle oil heiress from Georgia, throwing lavish parties. Hobnobbing with the society swells she sells “hot” fur coats and diamonds to her rich girlfriends. These items were actually payoffs to various bookies to cover gambling debts.
Sometime in the fall of 1937, Virginia meets Joe's rival Ben "Bugsy" Siegel in a Brooklyn bar. It's instant lust. The next night they have sex. It's the best sex Virginia's ever had. But Bugsy is an abusive lover.
|
Virginia Hill |
Bugsy is a mob hitman who has a short fuse and a tendency to go off at the slightest provocation, "Are you talking to me?, You think I'm funny?" we all know that routine by now. lol. However, Siegel is married and has two kids, Millicent and Barbara.
|
Ben "Bugsy" Siegel |
In 1938 Siegel relocated by the mob to the West Coast. In Hollywood he supervises the gambling, racetrack, and bookmaking rackets. Siegel tapped Mickey Cohen who was running illegal betting operations in Chicago to be his muscle in organizing the gambling rackets.

In May of 1938 Virginia splits with Adonis. In July of '38 she drives to California by way of Mexico with her brother Chick. In Hollywood Virginia and Chick rent an apartment in the Garden of Allah residential hotel at 8152 Sunset Boulevard.
Virginia begins to rub shoulders and everything else with the "stars." Actor Errol Flynn wines and dines her taking her to the Trocadero, the Mocambo, and the Brown Derby. At the Derby they get into a drunken fight.

Virginia, in the Fall of 1938 begins to make a series of trips down to Mexico, probably mob/drug related. On 7 December 38, Virginia is questioned at a border crossing by the FBI in Brownsville, Texas. She is travelling with her current boy toy Carlos "Miguelito" Valdez.
Back in Birmingham, Alabama, Virginia meets Osgood Griffin in a bar. He's a 19 year old
University of Alabama Crimson Tide football player from a wealthy family. Poor Osgood must have been like a deer in her headlights. Virginia scores. Fucking and sucking him in the car. They get engaged the same night, and get married on January 13th, 1939. It don't last long. Virginia splits.
|
Pat DiCiccio |
Back in Hollywood Virginia meets Pat DiCiccio an agent and movie producer, and an alleged mobster working for Lucky Luciano. Pat introduces Virginia to George Raft, who starts boning her on a regular basis.
|
George Raft |
At a party thrown by Raft, Virginia meets up again with Bugsy. They resume their lust/abusive affair. In July her marriage to Osgood is finally annulled, probably for a nice payout.
Virginia in 1939 still doing mob business travels frequently between Los Angeles, Mexico and Chicago. They are probably dug runs. While in Mexico Virginia is screwing both Chato Juarez, the son of the Mexican minister of finance, and Major Luis Amezcua, a rising Mexican politico.
|
John Roselli |
Back in Los Angeles Virginia starts banging John Roselli. Roselli is one of West Coast mob boss Jack Dragna’s capos. On January 20th Virginia marries Carlos "Miguelito" Valdez in order to get him legally into the United States. Once Carlos is a U.S. citizen, Virginia starts boning drummer Gene Krupa. Carlos agrees to an uncontested divorce as preplanned.

Unknown bimbo with Jack Dragna |
Jack Dragna orders Virginia to shack back up with Siegel in order to spy on him. Virginia and Bugsy start playing house at 250 Delfern Drive, Los Angeles. Brother Chick moves in also. They again attend Hollywood parties and are frequent guests on various movie sets. In 1940 Virginia screen tests for
Ball of Fire. The part goes to Barbara Stanwyck.

In mid 1944, Virginia heads back to New York and Joe Adonis. Bugsy heads off to build his dream casino in Las Vegas. By August 44, Virginia is back in Los Angeles and is screwing the brains out of Carl Laemmle Jr., of the Universal Studios Laemmle's. Carl is basically sucked and fucked stupid. Virginia treats him like a piece of shit.

Siegel meanwhile pleads with her to go with him to Vegas, but she ain't about to leave Tinseltown for a dusty desert flyspeck. She tells him to buzz off and stays in Los Angeles.

Billy Wilkerson |
|
Meyer Lansky |
In the summer of '45 Virginia is at the meeting between Siegel, his partners Moe Sedway, and Billy Wilkerson, owner of Sunset Strip nightclubs and The Hollywood Reporter. Other mob associates/investors included New York’s Meyer Lansky, They form the Nevada Projects Corporation to build Bugsy's Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. Virginia in her diary notes that the costs of the operation skyrocket to five million dollars. The mob figures they are being skimmed by Siegel, and they are right. Siegel allegedly gives two million skim money to Virginia who deposits it in a Swiss Bank account.

Sometime between September 1947 and April 1948 Virginia supposedly marries Siegel down in Mexico. However no legal record of the marriage is ever found. They move to Las Vegas where Bugsy oversees the construction of Flamingo hotel and casino. Even though they are now supposedly married, both still carry on numerous affairs with people around the country and Bugsy’s abuse of Virginia continued to grow.

On the 28th of December 1946 Virginia attends the opening of the Flamingo Hotel in Vegas. Movie stars and other showbiz personalities attend. Actors George Jessel, George Raft, Vivian Blaine, Lon McAllister, Charles Coburn, George Sanders, Sunny Tufts and motion picture producer Jesse Lasky are in the audience. Virginia apparently sees the writing on the wall, she splits back to Los Angeles and moves into a home at 810 North Linden Drive in Beverly Hills.
In May '47 Dragna, Roselli, Lansky, Adonis, and other Mob representatives meet with Siegel at the home of a Beverly Hills attorney to discuss the losses at the Flamingo and their future plans to expand in Las Vegas. Siegel is on the outs with the mob. Finally, and after Siegel brutally beats Virginia once again, she still had bruises to show weeks later, her ex-lover and Detroit boss Moe Dalitz puts out a hit contract on Bugsy.
On June 8th 1947 Virginia is ordered to fly to Chicago on the 10th. She tells Siegel that she is going to Paris to buy wine for the Flamingo. On 16th she flies from Chicago to Paris. Siegel talks with her over the phone trying to convince her to come back. They argue, she heads instead to Zurich.
On June 20th around 10:30 PM, Jack Dragna carries out orders from Dalitz. They cowboy Bugsy while he is sitting in Virginia's living room at her Beverly Hills house, filling him full of lead. The hit man blasts him with a high powered 30-06, right through the window. The first shot is one through the head. The hydrostatic pressure of that first bullet blows his eye fifteen feet from his body. Four more bullets tear through his ribs and lungs, but Bugsy was beyond feeling anything.
Back in France, 30 year old Virginia is now banging 21-year-old Nicholas Fouilette who is heir to a wealthy family fortune that supplied coal to Paris, and coffee and wines to Parisian restaurants. When questioned by reporters and police about Siegel she basically says "Who?" She denies any ties to him.
However, fearing retribution from the mob, probably something to do with Bugsy's skimmed two million, Virginia opts to take her own life. She attempts suicide four times. First by an overdose in Paris, then again in Monaco, and a third time back in Paris. She flies back to the states buys a house and hides out in Miami, where she fails again in her fourth attempt.
In the fall of 1947 she meets with old mentor Joe Epstein while he's on a hunting trip in Montana. Joe tries to get her to part with her incriminating diary, she refuses even though he gives her two thousand in cash. She meets with Joe again in Spokane, Washington, but she still won't part with the diary.
In 1948 she sells her Miami house and goes on a tour of South America. She has an extended stay in Mexico City. By June apparently making amends she is back in Chicago. In February of 1950 while in Sun Valley. Idaho, she meets ex downhill ski champion and now ski instructor Hans Hauser, he apparently impressively "hoses" her well enough for her to agree to marry him, in nearby Elko, Nevada. The publicity of this attracts the attention of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Hans Hauser and Virginia Hill |
Virginia and Hans move to Bar Harbor, Maine. Virginia is settling down now, on November 20 a son Peter is born to the couple. They move to a new home in Spokane, Washington.
|
Senator Estes Kefauver (standing) |
On March 16, 1951, Virginia is subpoenaed
to testify before Senator Estes Kefauver’s five-member Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce in New York City. The televised hearing makes Virginia a national celebrity.
The IRS comes knocking, Virginia is served with a formal tax lien for $161,000 for back income taxes from 1942 through 1947 against her possessions. Hauser is ordered to leave the country, and he and Virginia go into hiding but they are recognized at the airport in Denver. Virginia heads to New York City to talk to Joe Adonis but he refuses to see her. The IRS auction in Spokane of her personal belongings nets only $41,000.
Virginia gets an Austrian passport under the name Hauser and she and Hans live in Vienna. There are rumors that she and Hans want to build the most expensive ski resort in the world, probably with Bugsy's mob skimmed 2 million as her contribution to the construction. They travel to Hong Kong, Paris, Italy, and Switzerland.
In 1953-54 Virginia develops a drinking problem, is indicted in absentia by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles for income tax evasion and the IRS declares her number three on its "Most Wanted" list. Virginia was at the time still receiving cash payments from the mob as a sort of pension, but the payments are drying up as the old mobsters start to die off or are set to the slammer.
For the next five-six years Virginia tries to bargain with the US government using her diary as bait. Tries to enter Mexico and Cuba but is refused. Moves to Switzerland with her son after separating from Hans.
Virginia extorts more money from both Epstein and Adonis after she leaks rumors that she may publish her diary.
On the 22nd of March, 1966 she flies down to Naples at the request of Joe Adonis. She spends the nigh negotiating at his villa. Negotiations must not go to well. The next day Jackie "Two Black Shoes" Tiadori and another Adonis goombah drive Virginia back to Austria. Near Koppl, they walk with her into the woods and make her lay her coat on the snow and force her to swallow among other substances a large dose of Mogadon. Virginia was 49 year old. They find her two days later partially buried under the snow. The coroners report finds the amount of about 20 pills in her body. A note found near her body states that she was tired of life, more likely Adonis was getting tired of being blackmailed.
Hi. I am writing a book about the Dunes Hotel and noticed you have a picture of Major Riddle dancing with Virginia Hill. It is between Virginia Hill and the phonograph player and Errol Flynn. I would love to be able to use this in my book if possible. I worked for Major Riddle and this would make a great addition. I worked at the Dunes for 8 years. Most sincerely. my email munari@msn.com
