Noirsville Tune of the Week

Via del Campo by Fabrizio De Andre performed by Enzo Jannacci - Italian "Audio" Noir

The name of the song Via del Campo is taken from an old cobbled street in the Genova’s historical centre, not far from il Porto Vecchio. At the time when De Andrè wrote the song (1967) Via del Campo was frequented by prostitutes

Via del Campo
(English translation)

Via del Campo there is a pretty one
big green colored eyes
all night stands on the threshold
sells the same rose bud to everyone.
Via del Campo there is a girl
with dew-colored lips
gray eyes like the road
hide flowers where she walks.
Via del Campo there is a whore
big green colored eyes
if you want to love it
just take it by the hand
and you seem to go far
she looks at you with a smile
you did not believe that paradise
it was only there on the first floor.
Via del Campo there is an illusion
to beg her to marry
see her climbing the stairs
until the balcony has closed.
Love and laugh if love answers
cry out loud if you do not hear
nothing is born from diamonds
The flowers are born from the manure
nothing is born from diamonds
The flowers are born from the manure.
