Desert Fury was filmed in Cottonwood Az where Burt Lancaster was Sheriff, then he and Liz Scott met in front of the drugstore and outside of the Purple Sage( that is now Nick's restaurant ) all in old Town Cottonwood. Then the bridge and smoke stacks in the background was filmed at Clarkdale Az, the bridge was the old Tuzigoot bridge, the road scenes are taken between Cottonwood and W.Sedona Yavapai County Az. The scene at "The Night Spot Cafe" is in uptown Sedona, Shiprock sits directly behind-above its been The Cowboy Club for a long time now, at the time filmed 1947 it was a service station and cafe-store..Then more scenes are of highway 179 between Uptown Sedona and Big Park Sedona( referred to also as VOC ) chase scenes..Then when they were up riding horses you refer to this as "Mojave County" it's on the old Schnebly Hill rd, T.C. Schnebly created to carry supplies for the town of Sedona he named for his wife Sedona Miller Schnebly. So all of it is filled in Yavapai and Coconino County in N.Az, all except the housewas back on California, and the scenewhere you see them breakinghorses with the Joshua trees, that's back in California we don't have Joshuatrees in Az. My husband's moms family on both her dads and mom's side homesteaded Sedona and the Schnebly's were personal friends, even buried in his great grandparents "Cooks Cedar Glade" Cemetery...I enjoy your blogs and pictures. Thank you for sharing. I'd like to read the book too now.

I think the director, the actors etc were all in on it. They couldn't not have been. The relationship between Hodiak and Corey is really obvious and I'm sure most people would have caught on back then.Margot Shelbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06580855468061590981noreply@blogger.com
